First Stage

Your sustainable adventure discovering Rimini begins at BIT Point, at the foot of the historic Tiberius Bridge. This national monument, built between 14 and 21 A.D. over the Marecchia River, connects the seaside town to the village of San Giuliano. With its five arches of Istrian stone and massive piers, the bridge is striking for its architectural majesty and solid construction technique. Over the centuries it has withstood earthquakes, floods and wartime conflicts, establishing itself as a symbol of the efficiency and beauty of Roman works.

Second Stage

After crossing the bridge, a journey of about 4 minutes will take you to Castel Sismondo, once the military fortress and residence of Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta. Built starting in 1437, it was commissioned by Malatesta himself, then lord of the city of Rimini and Fano. Today we can admire only a third of the original structure as, having become a papal fortress in the 17th century, it underwent drastic changes such as the demolition of the city walls and the filling of the surrounding moat. Castel Sismondo has had various uses, including city prison until the 1960s, and now hosts cultural events and exhibitions. Currently, it is possible to visit the Museum dedicated to Federico Fellini, housed inside the structure, for €10. For more information and tickets, visit the official website.

Third Stage

We continue our tour towards the Arch of Augustus, one of the oldest and most precious monuments in Rimini. Just under 10 minutes away from Castello Sismondo, stands the oldest Roman arch among those preserved in Italy. Built in 27 B.C. in honor of Caesar Octavian Augustus, it was part of the city’s oldest city wall, of which only a few blocks remain visible today. The arch is both the arrival and departure point of the Via Flaminia, which connected Rome to Rimini, and served as a true honorary gateway to the urbe. Together with the Bridge of Tiberius, the Arch of Augustus is one of the most significant symbols of the City, so much so that they both appear on the official coat of arms.

Fourth Stage

From the Arch of Augustus it will take only 5 minutes to reach the Roman Amphitheater in Rimini. This venue, which once hosted gladiator shows with a capacity of about twelve thousand spectators, now preserves only parts of the original structure, due to the brutal barbarian invasions of the 3rd century. Thanks to a series of interventions that began in the 1960s, the Amphitheater has returned to its former glory, becoming a protagonist of Rimini’s theatrical and cultural scene. Every summer, in fact, it hosts numerous performances offering a fascinating connection between the Roman past and contemporary art. The amphitheater is open to the public only during performances or for guided tours for large groups, which can be arranged through the Municipal Museums. However, a leisurely walk around the structure allows visitors to admire evocative views of it at any time.

Last Stage

Rimini is a city rich in history, and the ancient monuments visited so far are just a taste of all the wonders this location has to offer. However, we have come to the last leg of our short tour and we cannot end this journey without first reaching, in just 6 minutes, one of Rimini’s most distinctive and lively places: its Lungomare. With BIT you can walk along the entire Promenade, which in recent years has become increasingly green and oriented toward sustainable mobility. At this point, we suggest you put your scooter on pause and run to discover all that the beach has to offer.
